Bolivia Enforces Strict Electoral Silence and Restrictions for Runoff
As the nation of Bolivia prepares for its pivotal second round of elections, authorities have rolled out a series of stringent measures aimed at guaranteeing a peaceful, transparent, and orderly voting process. The electoral silence period officially commenced at midnight on Thursday, October 16th, marking the immediate cessation of all political campaigning, propaganda, and advertising. This critical phase prohibits any political party from making public announcements or publishing political advertisements until after the conclusion of the voting process, fostering an environment free from last-minute influence. In addition to the electoral silence, the government has enacted the "Auto de Buen Gobierno," a set of comprehensive regulations designed to prevent any disruptions or conflicts during the crucial runoff election. Among these, a nationwide ban on the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages will be strictly enforced, starting from midnight on Friday, October 17th, and extending until noon on Monday, October 20th. This measure is a common practice in many countries to maintain public order during elections. On Election Day itself, Sunday, October 19th, further prohibitions will be in force to ensure public safety and smooth electoral proceedings. Citizens will be strictly forbidden from carrying weapons, organizing parties, holding public gatherings, or hosting any form of public spectacle. Moreover, the transportation of voters by private individuals or unauthorized vehicles will be prohibited, a measure intended to prevent any undue influence or coercion. Exceptions to vehicle circulation will be granted only for essential services such as ambulances, accredited press vehicles, and other automobiles specifically authorized by the Electoral Tribunal. These robust and far-reaching measures underscore the Bolivian authorities' unwavering commitment to safeguarding the integrity and tranquility of the democratic process as citizens prepare to cast their votes and elect their new president.
