Man Arrested in Chimaltenango for Alleged Marketplace Vehicle Fraud

CHIMALTENANGO, GUATEMALA – Authorities in Chimaltenango have successfully apprehended a man suspected of vehicle fraud, following an investigation initiated by a victim's complaint. Kevin N., 30, was arrested by agents from the National Civil Police (PNC) and the Division against Criminal Gangs (DIPANDA) in Zone 1 of Chimaltenango. The operation was conducted after a vehicle, previously reported stolen in a failed transaction, was discovered listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace. According to official reports, the vehicle's owner had agreed to sell his car but never received the promised payment. Days later, he located his vehicle advertised on Marketplace for 40,000 Quetzales. Leveraging this information, PNC investigators posed as interested buyers and arranged a meeting with the alleged seller. During the rendezvous, officers confirmed the vehicle was indeed the one reported by the victim. Subsequently, Kevin N. was taken into custody and handed over to the appropriate judicial authorities. The vehicle had been registered in Zone 12 of Villanueva.
