A recent viral video featuring esthetician Peter Le has brought to light a recurring issue within the beauty and wellness industry: deceptive bookings. In the video, Le, a licensed esthetician, nutritionist, massage therapist, and nursing student, confronts a male client who arrived for a Brazilian wax appointment booked under a female name, "Janette." The client, who identified himself as Chase, expressed a desire for a female esthetician to perform the service, despite the booking being under a different name and the salon's policy of gender-matched waxing. Le calmly explained the salon's policy, stating, "By policy, men get waxed by men and then women get waxed by women here." He further clarified that the female staff are not trained for male waxing services. When Chase insisted on being waxed by "her" (Janette) and mentioned it was his birthday, Le reiterated that he would be the one performing the service if the appointment proceeded. Upon learning that Chase had been denied service at other establishments for similar requests, Le ultimately informed the client that the service could not be provided at his salon under these circumstances, directing him to leave. This incident, which Le noted has occurred twice, highlights the challenges service providers face in maintaining professional boundaries and adhering to gender-specific service policies. It also raises questions about client ethics and the potential for discomfort or safety concerns when clients attempt to circumvent established procedures. The video has sparked widespread discussion online regarding appropriate conduct in personal care services.
