Measles Outbreak in La Paz: 20-Year-Old Contracts Virus, Total Cases Reach 11

La Paz, Bolivia – Health authorities in the department of La Paz have confirmed a new case of measles, bringing the total number of infections to 11. The latest patient is a 20-year-old man from El Alto, who is currently stable and recovering at his home, with the characteristic rash already subsiding. According to officials, the 11 confirmed cases are distributed across various municipalities: three in La Paz municipality, one in Achocalla, one in Viacha, and six in El Alto. The first individual diagnosed with measles has already been discharged, and several other patients (the second, third, fourth, and fifth cases) are reportedly close to being discharged following favorable evaluations. The Departmental Health Service of La Paz (SEDES La Paz) stated that the exact source of contagion for the most recent case is still under investigation. However, they noted that a significant number of previous cases have been linked to the July 16th fair, suggesting a potential cluster of transmission from that event. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and implement necessary public health measures to contain the spread of the virus.
